my little sister {susie}

years ago, when my father gave me my first slr camera, i was lucky enough to have a built in subject in my own home.  my little sister susie…i love her.  among the many other reasons, i love the countless hours of standing, posing, make up and dress up she endured…for me;)  i’m not sure what it is inside someone that draws them to this thing or that thing, but my thing was always people.  i think i was really lucky with my first ‘person’ as she naturally has an amazing depth about her. i think i was just the lucky one who got it on film first.  i can tell you, her beauty on the outside is no match for her beauty on the inside.
sometimes…when i look at her today, i can still see that little 12 year looking back at me…

Heather - Hello friend!
Oh this is so priceless. My sister was always my model when I needed her. She even posed nude when I needed to do a figure study in art school. Great post!

le bonbonerie

there wasn’t much to think about when i was asked to do some photography for the bonbonerie.
for those of you who have never indulged, do yourselves a sweet favor and do so. soon.
unending supplies of luscious pastries, savories, uber decorated cookies, cupcakes and of course the creme de la creme of wedding cakes.
and let us not forget the tea room which crosses borders between a little bistro somewhere in the french countryside, a quaint english town and a sweet victorian b&b’s breakfast room.
for my part, it was nothing short of getting to play with ruffled, swirled, floraled wedding cakes, cupcakes, cookies, pastries…my heart is still thumping loudly.
oh how sweet it is.

do something stupid, random & ludicrous {happenstance}

oh this is a good one, i promise. the movie is named ‘happenstance’ starring one of my favorite foreign actresses, audrey tautou.
this very intertwined story is about many twists of fate in our lives. simple but not so simple, in fact.
there is a scene in a park where one of the actors is trying to ‘decide what to do’ based on something that is about to happen….an observer instinctively sees this and asks another man to purposely miss a shot. here are the observers comments afterwards…(too too wonderful):

“we’ve altered the course of fate like a grain of sand that jams works.
you must take me for an old nut who talks a lot of rat.
maybe so.
you’re partly right but only partly.
listen to me, there’s not a gesture even the most insignificant, that can’t change the world.  That man there decided to lie to his mistress like he lied to his wife on the simple toss of a pebble.
you see, every detail, every gesture as slight as it many be, reveals an infinity of truths and thus has an endless repercussion and grandiose effects.
you may only have to piss in the sea to make the ocean rise.
don’t they say the beating of a butterfly’s wings over the atlantic can cause a hurricane in the pacific?
so feel free sometimes to do something stupid, random & ludicrous.  that stupid, random & ludicrous act can upset the order of the world.”

oh i love foreign films!  here is the opening scene:
