ethan zachary {newborn session}

here he is! forever…evan’s little brother, mommy’s little boy, daddy’s son, the youngest, a part of the family. perfect in every way. ethan.
i wasn’t able to be there when he was born, like i was when his older brother evan was…i was right there, the one snapping away as
the doctor performed my sister’s c-section. it was pretty miraculous if you ask me.
ethan…well, he was surrounded by ‘other’ family members;) but waited for me, his aunt gg (his favorite) to get there;)
he is similar in many ways to his big brother, but absolutely his own little man. he’s one sweet, healthy and beautiful baby boy. truly a blessing.

this is officially my first newborn session and who better to do it for than my own nephew;)

welcome to the world ethan, we are so happy to know you.

who, but my own sister, would let me
use a giant weathered urn from their pool area (after removing the hose, leaves, dirt and a few florida insects) to put their newborn on top of!
thanks, sister!

Nat - Truely amazing! Gigi, you give the most amazing gifts! No other way than freezing that moment in time can give us that feeling of warmth all over again. Merci Gigi! Merci!

Sheila Harper - You are a brilliant artist. Ethan’s session is breathtaking to say the least.

a studio session {with studio lights?}

there were a lot of emotional reasons for wanting a studio. but there were also very rational reasons for one too.
the weather. meeting with clients. hanging my work….i ‘do try’ to be rational when necessary.
so, the weather one. i do have three windows and a door in my doll sized playhouse and so that means there is some nice available light. but.
what about when it’s dark, or really overcast, or freezing or whatever? does that mean i have to use lights other than mother nature?
i love mother nature and all her luminous glory. but, what if? i remind you that i am a natural light photographer and proud of it! but, what if?
well, today i played around with some not natural lighting…aka…studio lighting.  i did go to school to study this years ago and have worked in
some pretty cool commercial studios over the years, so it’s not foreign to me, but i’m a natural light photographer, remember?
ok, here goes. it started out very familiarly. i set up some simple lighting and played around a bit. ok, so far. but now i needed some human bodies.
enter sophia and lily. god love them, i can always count on them! i moved some furniture around, the lights, a reflector and finally put them in place. i was ready.
one shot. stop and look. hmmm. change a little. look again. back the light off. look again. back it off wayyyy more. again. turn it off… perfect! what can i say?
i’ll get back to it…later.

absolutely nothing better than mother nature;) plus some little girlies, a little texture, toning and the general artsyness i like.

kiwi street studios & firefly frames competition {i won!}

emily…thank you! merci! grazie!

wow! what a sweet surprise to wake up to this morning! an email from emily at firefly frames and design telling me that i had won their studio spotlight picture competition made me smile-big!
(especially after posting about my missing the sunflowers!)
even more exciting since i’ve just opened kiwi street (the studio) less than a month ago and this is the first of anything i have ever entered!
firefly’s line of frames is one that i am looking at to offer my clients as many ask me about framing. want to see some examples of her beautiful frames, check them out!

and thank you emily for the sweet post on your blog. want to see it, go here.

and, of course, a picture and to go with a post…a peak of ethan

jess@studio3z - CONGRATS Gina!!! That’s so FUN. Your place looks amazing!! 🙂

sunflowers {not}

all summer i’ve been looking forward to a family session that was to include a garden of sunflowers and children.
‘all summer’ i’ve been so excited about this session. in my mind i saw theee day, theee little faces peeping out from the
the sunflowers, heard theee laughter, saw theee finished images….i couldn’t wait!
then…a change in plans. it didn’t happen. that simple. majorly majorly bummed!
of course i was starting to see the fruits of other sessions amongst the sunflowers – as it should be at this time of the year.
one of which was my friend jessica’s whose beautiful shots i saw on her awesome blog, inspired me even more.  when she shared
the location with me, i picked myself up and thought, i’ll take ‘my’ girls out and do a session with them! yeah!
i already had the title. {sunflower girls}. yes! in fact, then jess and i were talking about meeting there with all our girls!!!
cool! happy and excited again!

so, yesterday, sb and i went up to columbus to pick up gabriella and sophia from the airport and on the way back home thought,
‘why don’t we stop by and check out the sunflower field’ as jess told me the day before they might not make it to the following weekend
as we were planning. well, 2 very cranky, tired girlies, one HOT day, one husband trying desperately to find the sunflowers for his wife
who insisted they had to be ‘here’….right here on this corner. a corner that all we saw was…..a field. an empty field.
well, they ‘were’ there. and just to prove it, he parked, got out and picked one up off the ground to show me….
and my head went down, wayyyy down.

too late. ;(
